Hemplement
Hemplement was a collaborative research analysis project in which my group and I identified current and upcoming trends within the next 10 years, along with the signals, implications, extrapolations, etc to conceive a product/service that would succeed and be suitable for that future trend. With the newly introduced legislation legalizing hemp production as of 2018, we decided to market our product around industrial hemp, with our main focus being the re-introduction of hemp as an untaped viable material in our current ecological climate that has the potential to disrupt many other industries for its various applications and advantages. Hemplement offers hemp-based eco-friendly furniture marketed towards a new generation of people who understand that the future is in their hands and are ready to make an impact!

Who Am I?
Glad you asked! My name is Santiago Garcia Sanchez, I was born and shortly raised in Bogota Colombia before relocating to Canada. I'm an emerging product designer currently attending OCAD University for a Bachelors in Industrial Design. While I admire all areas of design, my main focus for this path I chose is unquestionably toy design. I aim to learn all the ins and out of this industry; everything from the ideation phase to the manufacturing phase. I consider experience a vital role in my journey and while I may not have much of it as of right now, I am ready to prove I can be a great asset to the team!
Ever since I was a young boy, I always intrigued by the concept of reinventing or building upon an already existing object with the intent of improving it to fit my needs and later, the needs of others. Inquisitive by nature, I was always engrossed with the interior mechanics of everyday things. I would regularly take apart objects just to put my curiosity at ease. I would also find myself constructing my toys with various components from around the house not because we couldn't afford new toys, but because I added an emotional meaning to an otherwise useless object. I would envision myself as "The Inventor" and even carried a sketchbook filled with all my "great" ideas not all limited to toys. Yea I'll admit some were nonsensical and had no merit to them, but who doesn't have an occasional bad idea or two, especially at that age. However, some of those ideas still amaze me even to this day for how logically well thought out they were to the point that one or 2 of those ideas now exist today. It wasn't until later on in life when I was being pressured to decide what I wanted to do with my life where I finally discovered the wonderful world of product design and my subsequent obvious decision to pursuing a career in Industrial Design. You're reading this and presumably thinking who cares, what does this have to do with the now, but for me, these were all valuable steps I have taken that have contributed to the way I choose to view design to this day.
